She is the victim of appalling emotional peer aggression and control much like I experienced in my tweens and teens to the point I’m still recovering in my 30s from the damage. Tabby reminds me a LOT of myself, uncomfortably so at times and probably is an eye opening book in that regard. The Jennifer Erhle/Colin Firth version is discussed in The Hearts & Paper Society with Olivia’s obsession with Pride & Prejudice. Tabitha Brown has been packed off to her grandmothers for the summer whilst her parents pack up the house in preparation for their sale and relocation from Cheltenham to Dorset. With an authentic youthful voice, book recommendations sprinkled without and a cast of playful characters Lucy Powrie is absolutely smashing it out the park with her debut The Paper and Hearts Society with its Contemporary realism and it’s very British exploration of the complexities of anxiety, bullying and peer aggression especially over social media but ultimately the narrative is rooted within the camaraderie that comes from a love of books.
